This is for the Toyota Hilux Surf LN130.

This is pain in the arse if you own any car.

The warning tone is there to notify you that you have left the keys in the ignition whenever you have your door open to prevent you from locking your keys in the car after exiting.
Well, if you're dumb enough to do that, then leave the alarm there and put up with the tone. The problem is if you're like me, it'll drive you absolutely mad because I leave my door open a lot when I park up for music in the bush or on the dunes, or whenever I work on the car.

Take note that I'm not going to go into the nitty-gritty of naming every screw location because If you can't remove a few screws, leave it to someone with an IQ higher than your shoe size.

To get around this, do the following:

1: Remove the dash surround, knee panel, and key panel. You should end up having something looking like this:

Keep in mind that I've removed a lot more than what you need to because I am wiring up an 8.1 DVD system in the car while I'm doing this.

2: Remove the dash cluster.
3: Remove the 2 screws holding in the switch. You'll need a small Phillips screwdriver for this. Here's the little bastard you want to remove from the ignition switch:

4: Tuck the switch away and cable tie it so it doesn't move and engage further down the track:

5: Put it all back together and enjoy the freedom of being able to leave your keys in the ignition and your door open without having to listen to some monotonous techno inspired noise pollution.

The reason I've tucked it away instead of removing it altogether is if I ever sell the car (doubt it), then the new owner can put it back together if (s)he's as smart as a toilet brush.
Also, the other thing is I've opted to go with this approach rather than get at the alarm behind the kick panel is that this is easier to do, believe it or not. The alarm behind the kick panel is an absolute bitch to get to as it's behind the main wiring/fuse bundle.

HINT: While you're at it, if the reversing alarm pisses you off as well, go here and remove that bastard as well - Eliminating The Reverse Warning Tone - LN130
