Plus you've be looking at ~$1k to get that work done. On a Commodore it'd be $500 cos they're pos to do (that's. Good thing, typical Holden shit, they break often !!) but Skylines, sadly, a lot harder.

You don't need to remove the thermostat to flush the system. I'm 110% positive your mechanic won't!

The thermostat is fucked, needs replacing. Or at the very least, inspection and a clean.
Yeh to be honest i have no idea how hard it would be to do heater hoses... You said they are hard Rhys, but Martin has experience with Skylines and when we spoke to him it didn't sound like he thought it would be a hard job at all. I wouldn't think it would cost as much as a 100k service surely?

I thought you guys did the thermostat before? If it needs to come out anyway, he may as well flush it when it's out.

100k services are expensive due to parts mainly, and a bit of labour. It'll probably take longer to do the heater hoses though, and I read on SAU somewhere that it's likely to cost that much. I could be wrong though, I don't deal with pricing. But the price might include therapy too...

Yeh Tom's work colleagues told him we needed to take the thermostat out to flush it... So we did that. And then when we put it back in the car took ages to warm up and then when we took it for a drive it got really really hot after about 5 minute, so we are guessing the thermostat is stuck closed.

Run rich??ok, so cars back, keeps cool, all good...BUT its idling at 1500 rpm, so i replaced the stepper motor, still idles hell high, and now when im driving it and just trying to cruise at low revs the car jumps. i tried adjusting that lil screw, when i wind it out it hunts hell high and low and when i wind it in it idles at 1500,
can anyone help had the car for ages and still havent been able to take it on a cruise yet
Try coolant temp sensors check resistances with multimeter at room temp and in boiling water, n see how you go.
That was the rexxies prob, also...boost leak, or air flow meter? try contact cleaner on afm.

check carbon cannister connections behind headlight, may be wrong way around, try blocking them off and see if that fixes idle
check vacuum lines for cracks,
check AAC (Auxillary Air Control) valve
reset stepper motor?
Inlet Manifold Gasket can leak, causing higher idle
Throttle (inner and outer spacing gaskets) on the plenum, may somehow be worn or even broken resulting in additional amount of air being sucked in to the engine, which is not being detected by the AFM.
Throttle control arms may not be set correctly
Just try the vac lines first, squeeze them with a pair of pliers, see if anything happens :)works a treat on dak dak

Good post though Tiddy, gives us a place to start
Hmmm could also be throttle body not closing fully on idle. Explains why neither of the AAC valves we had on there would adjust the idle...
