Hmmm, starting to wonder about how awesome Hyperdrive's tune actually is... Car still backfires a bit, and after filling up on Wednesday I have done 80kms to quarter of a tank (that's hardly putting my foot down on low boost, let alone high boost) My needle never used to move at all until I had done 82kms, now it's already used a quarter of a tank! Guess I will have to see how many kms I get to the full tank, but I don't think it is a very good tune at all.

Get an EBC then?
Turbo + Turbo AFM + tune to bring out power
...don't expect economy
But alot does come down to the way you drive. I've seen high power output RB20DETs get over 500km per tank.

I have an ebc?
Thing is I'm getting worse fuel economy then I was before the car was tuned. It's not like I'm making huge power, especially on low boost. So far I've got 130kms to half a tank and I'm babying it around hardly ever going over 3K rpm. Surely if they have leaned out the tune then I should be getting better fuel economy than when it was running rich on the stock ecu?

If I drive my car very, very softly (as I do 99% of the time when it's a daily, too and from work) I get ~400km a tank. When I give it shit here and there, I get ~430km a tank... When I thrash the crap out of it (redline, sideways, high boost everywhere) I can get 300km s tank my tune is fucked...

Yeh I do boost it every now and then like overtaking or something, but I'm a pretty relaxed driver so I just drive it like it's a normal car

Would it be that he tuned it, expecting you to run on high boost all the time? Ie he spent most time doing that tune..?
What if you try high boost for a tank without going mental?

It could be? But surely as a tuner he would know that the stock turbo isn't going to last long at that boost level... I could give it a go, but I'm a bit nervous about driving around hitting 14psi everyday when I can't afford to replace the turbo if it goes.

^^^ Set EBC to boost early, and see if you get more by spending more time on boost, and then try late boost, slow delivery, so you spend NO TIME on boost.
See if either work better.
Remember, when your turbo STARTS to spool, between 0 - full boost, fuel maps get a little tricky, so if you're "staying off boost" means you let it just start to spool before you shift up, that might be the negative effect. Some tunes are set to quickly increase fuel on the RPM band as soon as boost naturally begins. Fuel map adjusts, then suddenly it's 2-3k rpm lower (downshifting gear) so it has to re-adjust again.

That makes sense ^ turbo starts to spool from about 1700rpm really, so it's pretty hard to drive without spooling.
Easier option rather than messing with the boost controller, I'll plug my laptop in and check what the duty cycle is like and I believe I can also check what my fuel pump is doing with the NIStune software... Will give that a go tomorrow
