Ok first of all, NEVER BUY A FORD EXPLORER!!! a service advices at work had a mate with one. I had to get it over the pits, which included replacing the steering rack. Worst job I've ever had to do.
New Holdens and new Fords are similar in quality. From my experience, the Fords slightly edge out the Holdens, but around the time of the VN-VS Commodores and the EA-AU the Holdens have them. Older Holdens are pretty crappy but easily fixed, and they're awesome so it's forgiven. That's my personal opinion from working on those cars. The Focus, Fiesta, Astra and Viva are all European cars, and are HORRIFIC! Seriously shit quality and you've got to be crazy to own one.
Again, person opinion. Each to their own.
V8 Supercars isn't the best way to judge it though, they all run similar engines, same suspension, and the chassis are the same with different shells. The cars are all even to keep the racing close, which makes it so exciting

I don´t find V8 Supercars exciting at all
Astra and Vectra are much the same, my Vectra never missed a beat. Was a great little car, would easily own one again.

You don't realize how cheaply made it is? Everything is cheap plastic, including half the engine.
Too many oil stained rocker cover, brings back bad memories.

In relation to rhys's post.
1970 - 1980's Datsuns, much better quality vs australian cars of the time and maybe even todays.

I dunno Socs, I've seen a few old Holdens that are as clean as yours... But haven't seen enough to be 100% sure, so can't comment. I just know old Holdens are epic

None of the important things were, hence why it never broke. I wasn´t the kindest of owners either, though I did service it regularly.
Of course things are going to be cheaply made, it´s a cheap car. You don´t pay for a Holden expecting a Ferrari.

See look at that! Still going strong. What a champion No dollar

you fix the headaches by puting the fuel inside the ford like all over the seats, strike a match and walk away then let it take its courseFixed.

what's the L34 mean in what you said?
Its the Bathurst model. Each Torana SLR had a factory model number, most of the ones around today are L32's. If you can get your hands on an L34 they are worth big $$$$$$$
