I decided to use my ashtray for locating the controller box because I'm not a disgusting filthy smelly smoker and the ashtray is a waste of space.
The first thing I did was measured the size of the controller box and then cut the hole for it using a drill, a die grinder, and files.

Next I glued the controller box into the ashtray using a hot melt glue gun.

I wired the whole lot up using a harness for easy removal when needed.
I located the shift lamp into the fascia so it would be in a permanent location and in my face.

If you want to locate the lamp here, you'll need to double check, then triple check your measurements to make sure that the lamp and the fascia line up precisely. The lamp was too big to locate behind the fascia alone so I had to drill a hole into the perspex cover for the lamp to protude from.
Here it is in operation.
